about
'Our House' is the second release to come from Nova Records, the label division of Nova Music Group, which was set up in lockdown as a way of working more closely with and developing artists and writers we have been discovering and showcasing for the last 12 years. Put together in Lockdown #1, 'Our House' is a collaboration Nova arranged between 3 of its finest artists, Hattie Whitehead, Howard Rose and Max Runham to keep creativity flowing and spirits high during a time of uncertainty and strife. Working on this track proved to bring these artists together through music even though it was created by them remotely from their respective lockdowns. We have already received support for the track on local BBC radio and in the summer created a video compiled of videos sent to us showing what people across the world were getting up to in lockdown. In releasing this song we wanted to bring our artists together, to create a bit of joy and allow people to take a moment to appreciate the every day ordinary things we sometimes take for granted. As Christmas approaches, we hope the track will prove to be a tonic and a heartwarming look back on the positive things this year has afforded us.
The track is a triumphant take on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young timeless classic which has been sensitively and evocatively produced by the mighty Howard Rose, with crystalline honeyed vocals and guitar parts from the ever mesmerising Hattie Whitehead and finally completed with bv's and guitar fills from the equally extraordinarily talented Max Runham.
Here Graham Nash describes how the song came to being and the ‘ordinary’ moment shared between himself and Joni Mitchell, two very unordinary people. ‘“It was a kind of a cold gray morning as it sometimes can be in Los Angeles, and I said, ‘Why don’t I light the fire and you put some flowers in the vase that you just bought.” So she’s cutting stems and leaves and arranging flowers in this vase, and I’d lit the fire. Now, my and Joan’s life at the time were far from ordinary … and I thought, ‘What an ordinary moment.’ Here I am lighting the fire for my old lady and she’s putting flowers in this vase that she just bought. And I sat down at Joan’s piano and an hour later, ‘Our House’ was written.
lyrics
I'll light the fire, you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.
Staring at the fire for hours and hours while I listen to you
Play your love songs all night long for me, only for me.
Come to me now and rest your head for just five minutes, everything is good.
Such a cozy room,
The windows are illuminated by the evening sunshine through them,
Fiery gems for you, only for you.
Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard,
Life used to be so hard,
Now everything is easy 'cause of you'
Our house is a very, very, very fine house with two cats in the yard,
Life used to be so hard,
Now everything is easy 'cause of you'
I'll light the fire, while you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today.
